Hi all -
Had to share my virus experience - and hopefully, all of you will have your
systems checked out.
It would be difficult to get a virus from "the list" because if I am right,
Karen (?), the listserv screens for those as much as possible. (Which is
one of the reasons why we cannot send attachments thru the list). I got a
horrible, debilitating virus from my company computer, which I access from
home (yes, I'm a single mom workaholic). At that point, the virus attacked
my hard drive and my address book and sent email to alot of people in my
address book - from me, and from each other. I didn't send the virus - the
virus is programmed to do that all by itself. That's another way computer
virus' spread.
Now, I am on a new computer - and my "sick" computer still sits by it's
lonesome in the corner of my room - quarantined against sending any more
email - forever! (Or at least until I can find time to get it to the
computer "doc"). However, if you find yourself receiving strange email, the
best advice I've been given is delete it without opening it! Never download
anything from anyone you don't know! (Don't accept candy from strangers!)
And then, go to your Deleted Items and delete all of them, too.
Also, if you have your email "view" set on "preview" - it automatically
opens email so that you can see the email itself and your list of new email
above. Change that "view" under "View" - by clicking "off" preview. That
way, your email doesn't open unless you open it!
Last, but not least - when you make an expensive investment in a computer
system, it's always adviseable to spend a little more and get a good
anti-virus program like Norton. (And, here I am - telling you what to do
when I haven't done it myself - I'm such a good mom..)
Feel free to email me if you have questions...I'm pretty computer "savvy"
and will help all I can...
