unfortunately only babies who take a breath are given a birth certificate,
as such, here in Australia. I can only imagine how distressing this must be
to the parents. At our hospital we try our best to make sure that the baby
is honoured and respected and their little life acknowledged no matter
whether they are 16 weeks or 40. >>>>>>>

Tracey,

As I found out in the horrible meeting I was in and through my own personal
experience, in Texas, a birth certificate is only given if the baby is 20
weeks or older and also must take a breath. Stillborn babies are not given
a birth certificate.

As for a bereavement package, I was very fortunate with my hospital. They
gave me a beautiful handmade box decorated with an angel and teeny hand and
footprints. Inside the box was a card with Grace's hand and footprints, a
teeny blanket, a plaster of Paris type thing with her footprints, a "brat"
necklace with a girl charm and her birthstone, a baby charm bracelet, a
teddy bear that had a picture of a baby in an incubator with a halo above it
and an angel kneeling by the incubator and also a wonderful book "Mommy
Please Don't Cry For Me". I was very blessed. In a time when I could have
felt like I delivered yet was going home with nothing, the staff gave me
this beautiful package and it really helped. I do like the idea of having a
note of some sort that has birth stats like you mentioned where I could have
put her name. I may suggest that to my hospital so thanks for the
information. Hint, hint Katie...you might think of these types of things
for your organization you are building.
