I would say to tell those who you know will support you through good or ,God
forbid ,otherwise.The only people I chose not to tell were those  whom I
knew would say dumb stuff like "oh no not another one" or " you should be
grateful with the ones you have" or the all time favourite for those of us
who have angfels " oh great a replacement for........."
It isn't guaranteed (we have had one or two stupid comments from people we
thought would know better)but it helps IMHO.
