I spoke to my husband about this yesterday and he said that what he recalled
from the appointment we had with the genetic counsellors about 3 weeks after
Nadia died was that it was "fluke". I recall little from that appointment. I
was very emotionally distraught and the counsellors devasted me further when
they recommended that I have an amnio with my next pregnancy and abort if
the child had the same condition. I am not making a general comment on
abortion here, I am speaking personally for myself what that message meant
to ME ALONE. What I heard from them was that Nadia was not worth more than
being ripped out of me limb by limb. After what I experienced in the
hospital, how Nadia was treated...basically left to die in a corner....that
statement, made so coldly, cut very deep. All the emotions were still so
raw.

My husband feels there is no reason to explore genetic counselling further
unless I can give him information that would show it was necessary. The
thought of going back to genetic counsellors and digging this up again is
very distressing for me, but I feel some sort of compulsion to make sure. I
want to see it myself in writing. I called my family doctor yesterday(who I
haven't seen for six years...long story behind that one that I won't even
begin to get into) to see her for a consult and look at the past files. I
know she would have a letter from the genetic counsellors in my file. My
file apparently has gone into their archives and will be destroyed in the
near future, so I need to act quickly.

What kind of testing is necessary? Blood testing? In what types of trisomy
would one be a carrier?
