I'm sure that Ashley is up there looking down on her mom and dad and
bragging at how strong you are.  I believe that the journey through the
grieving process is measured in milestones, and it sounds like you have
passed a major one.  Chad will eventually get there also, but unfortunately
everyone goes at a different pace.  Things that always set me back are/were
the major dates - the first year all the holidays, birthdays etc.  Maybe
Chad's birthday is what has hit him.  When your married the grieving process
can be difficult.    Mike and I experienced both our high points of marriage
as well as our low with Jessica.  I can't imagine not having him there with
me through everything, but the low was due to our different methods of
handling our grief - don't get me wrong, he was wonderful as long as we were
at the same point, but he moved on quicker than I did, and that is where
this group helped me so much.  It's great that you are able to be there for
Chad, because from my experience, when the guys crash they crash hard.

I hope you both were able to enjoy the birthdays without too much sadness.
