I need to explain the "cattle on a thousand hills" image. Our middle
daughter always had an issue with cows. My father in law had a cattle =
ranch
in Eastern KS that had a small lake on it. When the girls were younger, =

used to take them fishing. The curious cows would surround our truck =
because
they were usually fed from a truck. To a couple of little girls, cows =
can be
quite intimidating up close. When Mary was in high school, I had a =
frozen
cow eye sliced in half for her biology class. She wouldn't carry it =
because
she was quite grossed out, so I carried it into school for her. I think =
that
one of the boys put it in her lunch sack, but regardless the event was a
fiasco.=20

Later in high school, someone suggested that they go "cow tipping." The =
idea
(these were city folk), was that cows sleep standing up. The kids =
thought
that they would sneak up on a sleeping cow and tip it over. The thought =
of a
98 pound girl tipping over a 3000 pound steer made me laugh so hard I =
cried.


When Mary was in college, I would always tell her that I loved her more =
than
the cattle on a thousand hills. The idea came from Psalm 50 where God =
tells
us that he doesn't need anything from us. He owns the cattle on a =
thousand
hills and everything else. All He really wants is for us to call upon =
him in
our day of trouble and He will deliver us and we will honor Him. She =
would
answer by saying she loved me more. Gradually, the discourse was =
shortened
to "I love you more than a million cows" and she would answer "I love =
you
more."=20

When her son was born, I bought him a plastic cow and since then have =
given
him numerous cows and story books about cows. The cattle on a thousand =
hills
image is kind of a family jargon or special code.=20
