Sharon I was so disheartened to read your email about Colchester hospital. My mother is from East Anglia and most of my relatives live in either Colchester or Ipswich so its an area close to my heart. I cant believe how ridiculous they have been. And to be perfectly honest, i would really think even the fact they called any child an "abnormal baby" would be enough to have them in front of the NHS ombudsman in my view. It sickens me to the teeth to hear that we still have "professionals" like this. Anyway enough of my rant, i can only imagine how upsetting this has been for you. And disheartening in view of your wish to try for another special little one. NHS maternity services are really only designed to cater for people with lovely healthy babies and not those of us with lovely sick ones. I really hope you can find some sort of answer, or help closer to home than seeing Prof Nicolaides. Just to help a bit with the genetic information. I actually did get to see a genetic specialist (because my friend works at the hospital, not because i was referred). He explained to me that with Full T18 there was something like a 0.001 chance of it being inherited, but that in a tiny percentage of cases it is possible. Therefore it would not be offered in my case, but he would understand if I insisted on it. So really, there is a tiny chance it is inherited, but they are just being honest by advising you to be tested for your own piece of mind. ( i know of many couples who were told there was no possible way it was inheritable and sent home again, so Im kind of glad I at least was told the truth.) I hope that helps. They do a blood test and then it depends on where they send their tests as to how long it takes. I know its 5-10 days where I am. But its not too long. I hope you find some answers and some piece of mind. It sounds liek a horribel situation. at least my hospital (for all their faults) are very supportive in subsequent pregnancies. Maybe we could hook up sometime when Im down visitng my gran, Id really like that?
