Ambre, Teri, Fawna,

Ambre, congratulation's on your pregnancy. We wish you the best of luck.

Both of our children Christian (11/1-28/1988) and Joanna
(10/5/1998-1/5/1999) were full
trisomy 13. Our situation is similar to Terri's. My wife Daine is a
carrier of the Robertsonian Translocation 13/22. After Christian was born,
he was tested. The geneticist could tell from his karotype that there was a
translocation involved. Diane and I were tested at that point. For all of
our children after Christian, we had amniosintisis done at about 14 weeks.
Because we were at a higher risk, we needed to know. We know that there are
risks with any type of testing, but we chose to do the testing. Our doctors
had per formed hundreds of amniosintisis with no problems associated with
the test. The test results would not have changed anything that we did. It
gave us piece of mind, when we found out Sarah, Emily and Joey were
"typical". When we found out Joanna was trisomy 13 like Christian, we were
devistated as you can imangine. It gave us an opportunity to consult with
the doctors and deliver Joanna at the hospital which was best equipped to
handle any situation which could arise. Fortunately, her birth was trouble
free and we embraced her life with us. Kayleigh's amniosintisis came back
that she is a carrier just like Diane. We will always be concerned about
Kayleigh's children, as we will be with all of our future grandchildren, but
it also gave us piece of mind that she was healthy.
