Ambre,
My little Grace had full Trisomy 13. They could tell this from our
amnio results. This is the explanation I was given - it's not as
technical as it probably should be, but hey...I understand it!
Apparently some time between weeks 6 and 9, when everything is coming
together, another chromosome was created (mom sends a 13th chromosome,
dad sends a 13th chromosome and for some reason, another shows up...or
mutates). I believe they can tell from your amnio whether it was a
translocation or if it was a mosaic - and from what I understand, those
types of trisomies are genetic. We were told that what happened with
Grace was a fluke and that we had a less than 1% chance of it recurring.
We decided to go with those odds and try again. I was 34 at the time.
Because of the less than 1% chance and my age being younger than 35, we
felt like we would only do heavy duty testing (something like CVS or
amnio) if there were any signs of there being a problem. We waited 3
months after we lost Grace, tried and got pregnant the first month.
Little Nicholas is now almost one and healthy as a horse! =20
Anyway, in my opinion, you will know what is right for you. Listen to
your gut feelings. God puts them there for a reason. =20
Hugs,
Brenda - wife to Rich, mommy to Matthew Alexander(3), Grace Alexandra
(^i^ 8/31/03 full T-13) and Nicholas Andrew (11 months and cruising
around everywhere!)

I have some questions. If a baby has T-13 full, does that mean the
second=20
baby has a chance of having it to? Would that be by the parents that
unknowing=20
are carriers of Mosaic and Translocation? Or does T-13 full only mean
that=20
baby just gets it for no known cause. That the extra chromosome is
there in the=20
sperm or egg before conception.When they tested Gabriella's blood and
the=20
test came back she had T-13 full. The doctor told us that it wasn't
from us,=20
and they didn't test us. Do I understand this right? I know these are
questions=20
I should know. Thanks for replying. =20
