The magic pill is always the one that we have to swallow when we see
ourselves or our loved ones being mistreated. And by swallowing that pill,
we gain the strength to "fight" instead of "flight". I'm so glad that you
did.
But in defense of the "system", I will say that they sometimes "listen" to
the patient (and defend them in a different way than we would like to see)
who is not always the best person to listen to when we are dealing with
mental illness. If I wouldn't have been able to have separate counseling
sessions for me - as well as joint ones with my husband, I don't think we
would have ever gotten to the bottom of what needed to be done. They needed
to hear MY side of the story and then put that together with his - in front
of him - to get his true reaction. Then he got help.
I'll keep up the prayers.
Love you,
Sheila
