[tri-wings] Paula

Dear friends,

It is with a broken heart that I write this. Our daughter Paula passed away
Tuesday morning, May 27th. She struggled with depression after she lost
Annalis and never fully recovered, but she used her pain to empathize to
anyone who had problems. She didn't just talk about helping people, she
literally took them into her home, fed and clothed them, and when she ran
out of money helping them, got it from me. I've gone over there when she had
as many as 20 people of every race color and creed packed into her tiny 2
bedroom house for dinner. Her husband was an over the road truck driver and
when he came home on weekends he would try and clean house, but usually
there would be a couple who stayed.

For the last 4 years, she had severe migraine headaches but every time she
went to the hospital, they couldn't find anything wrong with her. She went
in Saturday with a high fever and a kidney infection. We thought she was
doing better and expected her to go home Tuesday. Monday night, we stopped
by and she showed me a letter her middle son had written her telling her to
have faith and not fear. She grinned as she handed it to me and my wife
said, "It looks like your bible studies with Daniel are paying off." For the
past several years, Daniel and I have gone out for dinner on "Papa night"
and a couple of months ago we started a bible study and scripture memory
course together.

Tuesday morning she went to the restroom and slumped over. The room was
immediately filled with doctors and nurses and they did everything they
could to get her back for about 45 minutes. The preliminary autopsy couldn't
find anything wrong with her. . . as usual.

The church was packed and the flowers were beautiful. We heard many
testimonies from people she had helped. One young lady had lost her father
and wound up literally on the streets. She lived with Paula for months and
Paula talked an old classmate into hiring her. She now has a steady job and
is doing well. Another had an infant child who had serious heart problems.
Of course Paula babysat her other children and taxied her back and forth to
the hospital (350 miles away!).

Paula has 3 living children. Cody (20), Daniel (12) and Courtney (5). Her
husband quit his over the road job and is trying to find a job locally.
Please keep us in your prayers. Here is a link to the obituary:

She worked with me for the last 6 years (when I could get her to come in). I
used to swap staplers with her when mine when it was empty. She brought
Courtney in to work every day for the first 2 years of her life. She learned
that as long as she was quiet she could sit on Papa's lap for as long as she
wanted while I was on the phone. Even now, she will sit on my lap for hours
at a time.

The tri-wings group meant a lot to Paula and me. We changed over to a new
computer system about a year ago and somehow got unsubscribed, but rejoined
recently. We received so much from the list when we discovered that Annalis
had trisomy 18. Thank you so much for your friendship and outpouring of
love.
