Hi everyone. We have power. Robin, Penny, and Charlene, we got lucky here. They
were predicting 3 weeks to 2 months without power but the different power
companies have been doing a FANTASTIC job, working who knows how many hours. We
have crews from as far away as Quebec, Canada helping out. If anyone from the
lists knows anyone that helped out, please give them a big "Thank You" from us
here. And the same goes to everyone that sent their thoughts and prayers our
way. I know that we also had a whole slew of angels looking out for us. The
schools, on the other hand, didn't fare as well. They are talking about them
being closed another 2-3 weeks. The kids are loving it, but they sure won't
like the make-up.
We were really fortunate during Ivan. I had all of our trees cut in the
beginning of the year except for one big oak at the back of the house and I
think that helped a lot. The bad thing was that we got 4 from our neighbors.
They wiped out the fences and one went through the roof in the computer room
but we heard it and saw the water making the sheetrock start to sag. I was able
to punch a hole in the ceiling before the sheetrock collapsed and let the water
drain into buckets. One good thing was that the limb stayed in the roof and
acted kind of like a cork, keeping a lot of the water out. We'll have to
replace some sheetrock, put a new roof on, and rebuild our shed and fences. But
all in all we were very lucky compared to a lot of others here. My brother and
his family got 4 feet of water in their house and lost almost everything they
own. The rest of my family and Amy's mom and dad did fairly well, not
sustaining much damage. Of course all of the yards and streets look like
war zones. All of our neighbors have chipped in and we have most of the front
yards straightened up, just don't ask about the back, LOL. The debris is at the
edge of the road and as you ride down the road you can't see most of the houses
because of it. Penny, we know how you feel there. I think it will be a while
before they get it picked up. We still have to boil the water or put bleach in
it before using it. We've been putting in a lot of hours at work, and some of
the damage that we've seen pictures of is unbelievable. Here is a link to some
pics on the Pensacola News Journal site:

I'll try to keep everyone posted as to how things go here. We are also keeping
an eye out for Hurricane Jeanne. FLORIDA DOESN'T NEED ANOTHER ONE!!!! We will
be saying our prayers.
