> Have you had it all your life or is it a new thing?
I've had it for at least 15 years. It is not new to me, but it can
come in the worst possible situations. I've had all kinds of tests
run. When it first started happening, my kids were 10 & 14, I would
guess, and they thought I was having a heart attack because it starts
with chest pain. Then, I can feel the actual muscles moving.
> Have you had any investigations done?
I've had EKGs done several times. I've had an upper GI a couple of
times. I've even been to counseling.
> Does it only happen in stressful situations?
It happens in stressful situations, but those situations could be
just eating with a group of other teachers and having to be back in
the classroom within a half hour. It could be when I sit down to eat
and someone tells me that they don't like something. If a trigger
subject is brought up even if I'm not eating, it can still happen.
I always know why it is happening, but I've never told anyone why it
is happening except the counselor. I've always thought the people I
was with ought to be able to figure out why it is happening. For 3
years while I was teaching, I arranged my prep time so that I ate at
a time when no one else was eating. Another reason for the
"disability," I guess. And another reason I'm so glad this list is
part of my life.
Last week on our way to Sioux Falls, when we didn't know where we
were going to stay, whether or not our granddaughter was still sick,
and whether or not we were going to have our Christmas party, I got
sick while driving down the highway. I made Dick stop the car. It
was awful. And embarrassing! Dick gets totally embarrassed by the
whole situation. Right now, I guess that I would have to say that it
happens ONLY in stressful situations. My husband thinks I need to
have it 'taken care of', but I can't seem to find anything to 'take
care of.' I'm sure that he is talking surgically.
Right now, I surgeried out!!! I know I HAVE to have a couple more,
but I'm trying to wait until my mom settles in her new apartment,
which is also stressful!!
Thanks, Tracey!!! (Your Christmas card finally got mailed today.
I'm sorry that it is so late.)
