Nancy,  My heart totally goes out to you for what you're going thru  
these days with Ian.  It has to be so hard for you and your family.
We only had Erin for 6 months.  I used to pray to God that if He  
couldn't make her well, to take her swiftly and painlessly when the  
time came--and that was the part ofd my prayer that He chose to  
answer.  I would also talk to Erin as I fed and rocked her, and tell  
her that when the time came that she decided she needed to leave us,  
it was ok--we would understand.  I always hoped she understood and  
knew how much we loved her.
We'll keep you and your family in our prayers.
