[tri-wings] Hospital Question Part 2

Another one of the sub committees is also developing communication with
children AND families who are non-verbal. Whether that be
physical, developmnental or even just that english is a second language.

The OT in me is developing a communication board that can be put beside each
bed. Sort of like a PECS system. A board that has cards
attached with velcro so that they can be taken off and given to the nurse
without the need for words to be exchanged. Eg there might
be a picture or a symbol for pain, food, drink, doctor, nurse, play - whatever.
That symbol can then be detached from the board and
given to staff so that the person, child or parent, without verbal language can
communicate.

I am developing the prototype for trial - and so here is my question - what are
the things that our kids may want to communicate to
staff??

Majorities, of course, start with minorities.
