[tri-wings] Re: FAS - Any Advice

Demi,
I totally agree with Bess. Your heart has already decided and you
will do what is best for all of you!! You are an amazing young
woman. Good luck and we are with you.

And then, the but . . .
My best friend (37-38 years ago) has a son with FAS. Both she and
Cory struggled all the way through his schooling. But mostly, they
struggled with the school system. And probably because my friend was
still drinking. The school demanded a lot of parental help from
Cher. She felt that the school should be providing the assistance.
I didn't even try to talk to her about it because she is so
stubborn. And her second child, a daughter, was in the gifted class
and always got A's. Everyone who has to deal with a special ed IEP
meeting knows the kinds of things that it entails. And the more you
know about the system, the harder it is to get some things. (even
from a teacher's perspective). If a parent doesn't know anything
about the system, the school can say or do anything and convince the
parent that it is the right thing. You will need to know what is
best for your son.

Cory now is in a permanent relationship and has two kids of his own.
I think he is going to make it.
