Hi Demi,
Every year I go to all of the schools in our district to take pictures and
video tape the children that receive Special Education Services. I have
been doing this for six years now. I love it and I love watching how all of
the children grow and most of them remember me. There is a little boy now
in I believe 8th grade that has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. He is soooo sweet
and lovable. He remembers me year after year. He is a smart little guy but
as you can imagine he struggles with school work. I say go for it. I'll
bet that he can learn a lot from Matthew and Matthew can learn a lot from
him!
Good luck and what ever you decide remember it is the right decision because
you are a good mom.
Hugs,
Tracy mom to Cody (Trisomy 9p)

any experience of / reliable info about the long term effects of Foetal
Alcohol Syndrome. I'm considering adopting a boy who is affected by this.
I have a good medical report on him and his developmental difficulties at
this stage don't concern me, but I'm more concerned about the longer term
effects and the impact they could have on the boy , but also on Matthew.

get from you comes without prejudice and with love. In the "real world", as
soon as we've mentioned his diagnosis to anyone they've advised me to steer
clear. Obviously I've done the reading about the correlations with mental
health difficulties and behaviour problems, but its by no means clear to me
how definite it is that these things will happen. I've worked with older
children with FAS, some of whom had behavioural difficulties and some
didn't. I just want to give this little one a fair chance, but I also need
to think of Matthew, who has needs of his own.
