[tri-wings] FAS - Any Advice

Dear All

Hope everyone is well. I'm really not keeping up with the mail so well,
courtesy of being back at work.

I need the benefit of your collective wisdom (as usual). Does anyone have any
experience of / reliable info about the long term effects of Foetal Alcohol
Syndrome. I'm considering adopting a boy who is affected by this. I have a
good medical report on him and his developmental difficulties at this stage
don't concern me, but I'm more concerned about the longer term effects and the
impact they could have on the boy , but also on Matthew.

I'm asking you guys, because I know that whatever information and advice I get
from you comes without prejudice and with love. In the "real world", as soon
as we've mentioned his diagnosis to anyone they've advised me to steer clear.
Obviously I've done the reading about the correlations with mental health
difficulties and behaviour problems, but its by no means clear to me how
definite it is that these things will happen. I've worked with older children
with FAS, some of whom had behavioural difficulties and some didn't. I just
want to give this little one a fair chance, but I also need to think of
Matthew, who has needs of his own.
