Beth,
   I had an epidural with both births..with Brittany it was wonderful but with 
Tiffany it wasn't as effective and I still felt everything. But I would opt for 
one everytime because it really helps with the contractions while you are 
dialating to 10 cm. Sometimes it slows dialation down but it worth it..unless 
your hubby likes getting beat up while you're in labor!!
   As for waiting as long as you can until your c-section date..I felt the same 
way (I didn't have a c-section though) But I wanted to keep Tiffany in as long 
as I could because I felt the longer she "cooked" the better. I joked too, 
asking the doctor since this was my second baby and I carried Brittany 8 
months..was there maybe a half price special where I didn't have to carry 
Tiffany the whole 9 months!! LOL..After I received the amnio results on Tiffany 
I was so anxious to give birth!!
