Thank you Mandy...; you are never far from my thoughts.
For all of the new folk, Jordan was my son, born 21 years ago this week. He
lived 13 days, and I remember the time like it was yesterday. Yes, the pain
has dulled, but the memory is still very clear. I am reminded constantly
that all three of my boys are young men...
His older brother, John, will be getting married 05/06/06 ( I still can't
believe I'm even saying that! I'm too young to be a M-I-L! ) And, I guess
the next step will be grand-children. I have my fears of that. John has
yet to be tested for the translocation that I carry - although he is keenly
aware of the need. It's so hard to make a 23 year old man do necessary
things! I'll be surprised if his fiance, Leslie, even gets him down the
aisle!
Chris, his younger brother, who will be 20 the day after the wedding, has his
girl down at College Station with him at school. We're all just praying
he'll pass his classes. She is a great influence on him, I believe, because
she attends college there as well and happens to care about her grades.
Christopher is a carrier of the translocation.
Victoria, my only daughter, will turn 12 on 04/29/06. I've raised her
alone, and of course, with the age she is at, am constantly questioning
whether I've done a good job, or made quite a mess. Girls are so much
harder to raise than boys (some might differ with me on that opinion). And
oh, the drama of it all....; and, Victoria, is also a carrier.
I have also had at least two miscarriages related to Trisomy.
I met a lady today, who lost her only son - only child - when he was 20.
She saw pictures of my children - all four - on my desk and said, "you are
so lucky...". It was another of those defining moments in my life, when I
actually stopped thinking about anything else - and believed...yes. Yes,
even with the loss of Jordan, and the mountains of worry that the future
holds for all of my children and myself....I am so lucky...
Happy 21st birthday to my young man. We all miss you - and wish you were
here.
