I'm HORRIFIED by your email. You are actually making me grateful for the care
we received now, which I never thought I would say. Our paediatrician actually
encouraged me NOT to sign a DNR for Connor in advance of his birth. He said
despite his diagnosis, unless I felt really strongly in favour of a DNR, that
it was best to wait and see what his condition was so that I could make an
informed decision. We were in the same position as Sharon in that we had been
advised prior to birth that he would not be eligible for surgery, but they said
they'd consider resus etc based on his presentation at the time. We even
agreed that he would be resuscitated at birth if necessary, to allow decisions
to be made about his overall condition.

It makes me so sad that a body with national recognition and some degree of
power would say something so wrong, so callous and so uninformed. I thing
someone who writes something like that must have had seriously limited contact
with any ill people at all. If we all gave up at the first hurdle, the world
would be a far less brilliant place. Demi > I am pleased to send anyone the
latest publications, if they request. The Nat'l Neonatal Nurses even wrote that
it is unethical to resuscitate.
