Which List?
Just a general reminder regarding the appropriate content to post to the tri
lists.
Because of the high volume of list mail it became necessary to split the
original Trisomy List into the two main lists that we have now, as well as the
Wings list and the Mosaic Research List, with possibly another being added
soon. This admin reminder is mainly directed at the two main trisomy lists,
Tri-Med and Tri-Family.
The Tri-Med list is for all things that are directly trisomy related, or
related to our tri-ers, not necessarily medical. So that includes medical
issues, education, development and so on.
The Tri-Family list is for related issues and all the "off-topic" things that
are important, but which can clutter the mail boxes of those folk who have time
restraints, subscribe from work, pay for downloads, have download limits etc.
Appropriate Tri-Family posts include birthday announcements, poems, recipes and
general chit-chat including off-topic posts.
Very RARELY is it appropriate to send the same mail to both lists.
My request is that people please don't mix the content of the lists. Some
people only belong to one list or the other, so may miss posts sent to the
wrong list. Additionally, those looking specifically for trisomy related issues
get annoyed if there are Tri-Family issues on that list and vice versa.
Quite often when responding to a mail you may need to change which list it goes
to. Thankyou to those folk that take a moment to check which list, and also
that the subject line is appropriate.
For those people who are having trouble with the mail volume, but don't want to
leave the list, there are a couple of options.
Firstly, you may want to set your mail for one or both the lists to the digest
version. The digest version is simply one (or sometimes more) large mail that
contains all the posts for the day. At the beginning of the mail is a list of
subject lines so you can scan the mail for issues that you are interested in.
If there is nothing then it is easy to delete.
Secondly, you have the option of setting your mail to "vacation". That allows
you to stay on the list to post (eg if your "tri-er" is in the hospital and you
want to send updates but don't have the ability to read all the list mails)
You can read the mails on the web a number of ways but the easiest is via the
public archives
http://www.escribe.com/health/trisomy
Actually anyone can read the list mails from the archives. unfortunately that
link isn't working at the moment as excribe have had major computer crashes
(seems half the net has recently) - you will need to go to the trisomy archives
on freelists
Tri- Family http://www.freelists.org/archives/tri-family/
Tri-Med http://www.freelists.org/archives/tri-med/
Tri-Wings http://www.freelists.org/archives/tri-wings/
Thankyou so much for your help in this, it is really appreciated.
