Glenda,
I know that Fawna posted to the list that your mails were coming through
fine, unfortunately Fawna can't see the admin side of things and many of
your mails arent coming through properly. Most of your mails are bouncing
back to the moderators for approval. They will eventually get approved (well
I hope but some may not - see below) but it means that your posts will incur
a delay.
Unfortunately its only a problem that you can fix, and I am posting this one
to the list because its something that happens fairly frequently with
anumber of folk.
One of the safeguards that we have set up for the list is that only list
members may post to the list. This is simply to limit the spread of viruses
and also to stop the list becoming a propogator for spam.
List membership is free - it just means that you have to sign up with the
email address that you are using and the list will only accept emails sent
from that address.
It would seem that you have multiple email addresses (which is fine so do I
and a lot of others :-))) You signed up under one address (the Glenda one)
but occasionally post from a couple of different ones.
If you post from these different addresses then the mail will bounce to the
moderators. (Mandy, Sue and myself). It will then sit in our inbox until one
of us actually gets to the computer, goes through and manually approves the
mail and then reposts it to the list.
This is not a problem, we don't mind checking the bounces, but it means a
delay and sometimes, because we get dozens of bounced emails a day, most of
which are spam, you run the risk of us getting a bit delete happy and in so
doing start deleting legitimate mails. Also we only have a certain time
frame in which to approve bounced posts and sadly sometimes we dont get to
the computer as often as we would like. (Actually the amount of time that I
can sit at the computer each daily is rapidly dwindling again). All of us
absolutely hate reposting mails that have expired because its sooooooooo
fiddly. And I am not even sure Sue would remember how to :-))
The solution to the problem is fairly easy - make sure that you post emails
from the address that you signed up with. Also if you have an email address
that you DON'T want posted to the list eg a work address then you need to
let us know NOT to approve that address. When we check bounces often we
simply skim the mail to make sure that it comes from a list member and don't
worry too much about which address has sent it.
So for all of you that sometimes have mails which don't come through to the
list straight away that may be the problem. Check to see which address you
posted from.
You could of course sign up with all your different addresses as another
option. If you prefer to do that let us know and we will set it up so that
you dont receive multiple copies of list mails.
