[tri-med] Re: when our children outlive us

{i did do a life insurance thing that is wroth 200,000,00 dollars so i do not
have wiry about him when i pass. . it is to take for taylor and is for stuff
taylor needs. it isn't to replace what taylor would get from disability}
Gina,

Remember that if you should pass on, the state will make Taylor pay for his
care out of any money he receives unless it is sheltered in a "Special Needs
Trust". He will get reduced benefits (SSI, Medicaid, etc) until he uses all
the money you set aside for him. If you have a Special Needs Trust set up for
Taylor, the money in the trust could go for clothes, hair cuts, etc. (things
Medicaid won't pay for) and it wouldn't be eaten away by medical bills.

We need to get a Special Needs Trust set up for Nicholas. We've looked into it
twice, but just need to come up with the money for the lawyer fees. This is my
biggest worry...that he will not be taken care of if something should happen to
us, so I need to get on this right away.
