The "surf board" is actually known by therapists as a "scooter" board.
Originally designed in England for use with NDT therapy, which is what you
guys are doing even if you dont realise it :-)) Jean Ayers also used it in
Sensory Integration.
If anyone needs, I do have a pattern, but as you guys have said they are so
easy to make. I also have a book which lists different ways to use it and
also a variety of games. It is an essential part of any therapists "tool
kit" Dimensions are easy - the width should be 3/4 the width of the person
and length is 1/3 their body length. That gives them support, but not so
much that they dont develop their own reflexes. Height off the ground should
be "low".
I know one little T-18'er (not so little now) who was having great
difficulty crawling. She wanted to, but had poor upper limb strength because
of a missing bones in her upper body. I popped her chest onto a scooter
board and off she went :-))
