To add to Penny's comments, when we discussed the "anesthesia and Trisomy" =
issue with Dr. Carey, he made the distinction, "people with heart problems =
have trouble with anesthesia, many of our children have heart problems".  O=
ur daughter, Morghan had heart surgery, (VSD, ASD repair) and had no proble=
m with the anesthesia nor did she have trouble coming off the vent.

Hi Gary and Elizabeth :o)
Devon does not have any heart issues but he HAS had a few surgeries. He's 
had a cleft palate repair w/tubes also...he's had a 3 in 1 abdominal surger=
y=20
(inguenal hernia, penoplasty (to free "Petey"), and his testicle brought 
down and tacked...he had another tube surgery and also another inguenal=20
hernia surgery. I realise none of these are heart surgery but he was put 
under anesthesia for all of them...the cleft and the 3 in 1 abdominal=20
suregery were the most serious...abdominal surgery and surgery in the mouth=
=20
are always serious. He was intubated for some of them...2 I believe...maybe=
=20
3 of them...if memory serves??? He never had any trouble with the exception=
=20
of a temperature after his cleft surgery which kept him in recovery until 
they were sure he did not have malignant hypothermia...about 5 hours. They 
also took extra precautions during his cleft surgery because of his small 
lower mandible/jaw...and tiny mouth and airway. They did not intubate him 
for obvious reasons (couldn't very well have a tube in his mouth and throat=
=20
while trying to work in his mouth)..but they did tie a suture to the corner=
s=20
of his mouth and then attached the suture to the end of his tongue...this 
way they could have pulled his tongue via the suture to get it out of the 
way in the event they had to intubate him in an emergency. He looked=20
pitiful...as he still had the suture hanging out of his mouth in recovery 
(about 6")...but they didn't remove it until they were sure he was alright 
:o)
