Low birth weight, developmental delays are VERY common in all flavors of
trisomy
.
VERY slow weight gain and height gain are quite typical in most of the
children. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule like Aussie Alex and
Devon.

Alex was full term (via ultrasound and dates) but weighed 4 lb and 12 oz. At
3 months he was somewhere between 5 and 6 lb.
He didn't hit 10 lb until almost 9 months of age.
We also didn't begin his immunization regime until he reached 10 lb, the
standard weight for 'typical' infants to begin.

When Alex started PPI (pre-primary impaired classes) in school at age 4
years old he was wearing 18 month clothing.

Alex is now 19 yrs old and weighs 110 lb at 4' 10".

He did have a diagnosis of GHD (growth hormone deficiency) and was treated
with GHT (growth hormone therapy) for a few years. We didn't achieve the
height that Alex and we would have hoped for but during the use of the GHT
Alex DID experience significant developmental/mental jumps. Even his general
ed and special ed teachers asked 'what have you been doing with Alex'. Other
parents of tri-14ers who've done the GHT noted the same thing in
development. The pediatric endocrinologist scoff at the notion but even list
Mum Karen knows tri-18 children who also received GHT and saw the
developmental jumps.
Makes sense really: growth is growth.

GHD seems to be fairly common in the trisomy 14 range.....hard to know for
sure as there aren't many of that flavor around to really get a good feel.
