Some of our nurses were using two split 2x2's but the doc said that was too
much and helped to put the button too tightly against the inside of the
stomach. We made sure the nurses know to use only one and they use a soft
cloth diaper (we use them as wiping cloths) folded over her button when
using her vest. We rarely have any bleeding.
Ironically we have an appointment with her surgeon on Monday morning for
them to look at and possibly change out the button. It seems to be dimpling
in. Considering that this one was "installed" in late November/Early
December of '07 I'm not surprised that it might need changing. She HAS grown
since then. :)

Subject: [tri-med] the bleeding stoma
We went to the GI dr on Monday. What a waste of time and money (the
hospital raised the parking fee). The only thing that came out of this
visit was that Annette should get 12 ounces of Pediasure and 25 ounces of
water a day, we need to add a protein supplement to her feedings, the GI
surgeon is the one who should take care of the bleeding b/c it's the stoma
not the stomach, and it took two hours to come to this conclusion.
I don't remember who, but someone told me to put two 2x2 split gauze pads
around the stoma b/c it might be the pressure from the Benik vest that is
causing the bleeding. Hey, you're right. That took care of the problem. I
guess personal experience trumped the diploma this time. THANK YOU for your
GOOD advice. It worked. Problem solved. Be blessed, you made Annette a
happy girl
Sincerely,
Annette
