Our solution to that was those bathroom door locks that can be
opened from the outside by some one with good finger dexterity,
but not by the offending sibling, aka Princess Phil. Do you know
the kind I mean?

I wouldn't call my kids "affectionate" with each other! But they ARE
tolerant, and still enjoy spending some time together as a family.
Point is though that although they don't tend to "glom" on each other
they were willing to take joint responsibility for Philina if anything happens
to us, so don't give up hope.
