ASD stand for atrial septal defect which in Brendan is a small opening in the
wall between the upper chambers of his heart, at this point it has not caused
any problems for him. PDA stand for Patent ductus arteriosus, what I
understand about this (someone correct me if I am wrong please) this is an
atery which goes from the heart to the lungs while the baby is prenatal and
is suppose to close when the baby is born. In Brendan's case it didn't but
according to his last echo there is only a trace opening. Both of these are
present prenatal so this might not be any help for you at this moment.
I can tell you that Brendan is doing really well and we are celebrating
his first birthday next week. The drs didn't tell us much when we left the
hospital. They gave us the statistics which were not very good, but each
child is so different that couldn't tell us what to expect.
I will send you and your daughter all my love, hope and prayers for this
very difficult time. I will be here if you need me.
