I feel your pain. And we haven't been through near the ordeal you have.

Claire has smiled once -- and seemed to mean it. At Christmas-time, we
were visiting her Grandma and as I held her, she looked up from my lap and
saw her Grandma attentively smiling at her, waiting to hold her. Claire
gave her a big grin... as true of a smile as could be.
Since then, only a smirk or two... and just as serious as can be all the
time... we get an eyebrow 'furl' when we try to be silly to get her to
smile... as if it is just beneath her to smile for us... too proper for a baby.
Patience... my motto these days. I think as our babies grow, they will
interact more... just gotta keep smiling at them, even when they give you a
look like "What the..!!??"
