I don't remember when Elanor first smiled--the first 2 years are kind of
a blur! I do know that she is a really big stinker! Like Chris's Mari,
Elanor does all kind of things until I brag about her, then she looks
awful--head lolling, eyes crossed, coughing and drooling. She really
has a naughty sense of humor!
Elanor never smiles when she is feeling poor, or when we have "done"
something to her (surgery, flu shot, etc.). She rarely responds to just
a smile, usually it takes talking or tickling to get one, but then she
gives them freely. I think it just takes our kids some time to realize
what smiling means, and that it makes their mommies so happy!
As for laughing, Elanor really loves noisy toys. Anything that rattles
vibrates or bangs. I think that the loud sounds and vibrations tickle
her. She has mild hearing loss, so I'm not sure how she hears them, but
her favorite is a piano that "pops" with little balls and music, and
blocks in a bucket. Maybe some stimulating toys could "prime the pump".
Just remember, smiles or no, she loves you! :)

cerebral palsy & spastic dysplasia; wife to Andrew-32 and wonderful!

Irene,
Hannah will be 9 months on the 6th and she has yet to smile. She also
doesn't respond to her own name. I figure she will get there when she is
ready. But mom is ready now! ;)
