[tri-med] Re: smiles - Irene

Elanor is the same way! Roughhousing with Arwen is one of her favorite
activities. She also loves noisy toys. Her favorites are "popping"
toys, and a bucket with blocks rattling around in it. I think the loud
noises and vibrations tickle her.

Just remember Irene, smiles or no, she loves you! The smiles will come!

Subject: [tri-med] smiles - Irene

Irene,

Have been meaning to say I am so glad that Caroline's surgery went
well. I hope this is going to mean an improvement in hers as well as
YOUR quality of life.

Tierney has been a smiler since 3 months. We had to work really hard
for those early smiles. The first occurred in church, with lots of loud
music and her brothers goofing with her. It was a beautiful gummy smile
with a wrinkled up nose, loved it. For several months we had to really
work for smiles, now she will smile at a smile, we love that.

I have told this to the list before but again...for Tierney, the smiles
come when her brothers wrestle with her. Honestly if they roll around
on the floor, hold her legs and pretend she is running, use her fists
to punch themselves in the face--anything like that she will smile and
sometimes laugh. The PT and I are always really cautious about it, but
our OT says "bring it on!" We now consider their holding her a part of
her daily therapy. I support her head so much, she does not even try to
hold it up. If the boys lay on the floor with her, she pops her head up
like a turtle and smiles. I love it.

Hang in there...it will come.
