[tri-med] scoliosis/ growing rods

Hi all -
we haven't posted in ages - but I have been lurking - so welcome to all the
new list members and hi again to the old ones!
We are settled into our new house in Virginia beach. I like it hear, but miss
Jacksonville, FL. we have spent the last couple of months getting new
therapists and seeing specialists ... the lasted being the orthopedist ...
which
leads me to my question...

Ryan's S curve measured over 70 degrees at the top of the curve and at the
bottom of the curve, so the ortho is suggesting surgery in the next 6 months or
so ... to place growing rods in ... he of course explained the pros and cons,
risks of surgery, what would happen if we didn't etc. Ryan is scheduled for an
MRI and CT scan of his back and spine next month to gather more info and the
ortho is gathering Ryan's films from his ortho in Jacksonville to see how long
and how fast the curve has been progressing...
So I'm looking for anyone who may have been in a similar situation ... who
could shed some more light on all this for us -

Ryan's hips are still slowly dislocating -- I've been reading about Jonathan
Cook - but our ortho said that isn't has urgent and Ryan will not probably
experience pain if they dislocate, but that arthritis will be a problem once
they
do dislocate...

Other than the ortho problems, Ryan is doing well and staying healthy...
knock on wood. :)
