Morgan gets his respite thru his waiver service. Basically, we can use any of
the local respite services. We have chosen to have someone come to our house
to stay with him when we want to go out. He also goes to a respite center once
a month for boys' night, he spends the night for that. We have to use respite
in order for Morgan to continue to qualify for his waiver. He is currently on
the mr waiver, but we are switching to the brain injury waiver. There is a
huge difference in the amount of $ you can get. With the mr waiver you can get
a lifetime amount of $5,000 for home and vehicle modification. Well, we used
that all up getting a lift in our garage. On the b.I. waiver there is a cap of
$6,000 a year for home and vehicle modification and $6,000 a year for medical
needs and equipment, which includes respite hours. The b.I. waiver has fewer
respite hours than m.r., but we never come close to using them all anyway.
