[tri-med] Re: please tell me about strollers

We also have a kid kart which is awesome for christmas shopping because you can
hang a million bags on it and it never tips...but aside from that it's not
really fun to lug around. On little quick trips we use a sling (which kaiya
loves because she can lick my shoulder and make my shirt all nasty and wet!) or
we use the umbrella stroller. I haven't tried this, but one of her therapists
recommended getting one of the bigger umbrella strollers (some brands are wider
than others - the ones at wal-mart seem pretty wide) so anyway, you take the
wider stroller and then get some foam from the fabric store and try to create a
little piece that will be on the seat portion and part way up the back and cut
it to kind of mold your child. it sounded good in theory, but like i said i
never tried it so i don't know how easy it would be to shape the portion that
the child has to sit in. Kaiya is getting to be too long for her umbrella
stroller (her little feet hit the ground if she takes the
m off of the ledge) so now i have to find something else or just deal with the
big ol' tank of a kid kart....

Subject: [tri-med] please tell me about strollers

We have a Kid Kart for Caroline. However, when we are going somewhere for
just a bit, we hate to load and unload the wheelchair. So, I usually just
put her in a regular umbrella stroller. I know she isn't sitting correctly,
but when she is only going to be in it for a half hour or so, or less, I
don't mind.
I remember some of you talking about special need strollers. It seems like
a great idea, a bigger stroller, with a little more support, yet easier to
transport and load.

My questions are:

Is Caroline too small for a stroller? She is 3 and about 23 pounds, but she
is getting LONG! My limited research seems to show many strollers are for
older children with less severe disabilities. Caroline has great head
support and is sitting better every day.

Does insurance sometimes pay for a stroller? Even if you already have a
wheelchair? They seem pricey.

Any other cheaper options or suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!!
