[tri-med] Re: please help me to decide (edward's syndrome)

Alssalam Alaykom,

As you mentioned it is a very difficult decision to make knowing what you know.
I can only share my personal experience regarding my daughter Nejoud. When
Nejoud was born, almost a year ago, we had no idea that she was a Trisomy 18
(Edwards Syndrome). Her condition was a surprise to us for we did not know
anything about this condition and were not ready for it. The doctors said she
has a slim chance of living (may be a year). I started to make funeral
arrangements. Nejoud was a full term baby (born 11-days before her due date)
and all previous tests during pregnancy were normal according to my wife'
doctors. I can only tell you that had we known before we would have decided to
keep the baby anyway. She is a very beautiful bundle of joy. She has given us a
lot of love from day one. I can see the slow progress in her growth and
development and keep asking Allah to cure her and guard her.

From the different readings on this web site I can tell you that their is no two
cases alike. Every baby has a different set of conditions and different
limitations and problems. My daughter for example has bad refluxes as the case
with most Trisomy babies; however the severity is different from one baby to
the other. G-tube feeding is also common (Surgery in stomach) to be able to
feed the baby. Most babies has difficulty eating through the mouth. As the
baby gets older you learn to deal with the dynamics of the situation. Somehow
you find the strength and determination to deal with it and take in strides.

Remember that whatever decision you make it is your personal choice and should
always be the RIGHT choice for you. Best wishes and may Allah guid you to the
right choice...
