Brendan's cleft is in the soft palate and has not been repaired. The doctors
want to wait until he is at least 15 lbs before they do the surgery. At the
rate he is going it will be a year beofre he get to be 15 lbs.
Thank You for the description I really needed that clarification. The
modified swallow was done with barium which was thick and he did well on
that. They watched him for about 30 minutes. I have had his speech
thereapist here when i have fed him and she has helped with his positioning
and holding of the bottle. He does not cough when i am feeding him but after
a couple of feedings it seems to build up. I don't know if it is the formula
or siliva. He has some 'pooling' but he seems to be able to swallow that
down when I give him the pacifier.
