Most definitely!!!!
The "sick of this" comment was more in relation to him crashing all the time. I
guess I get spoilt when we have good runs........
The school, his teacher in particular has been marvellous this year. In fact we
sat down yesterday and had a bit of a discussion
about getting the aid full time. At the moment he is covered with an aide for
all but 1 1/2 hours every day and we were looking at
strategies for increasing that to all day (plus a little extra in the
mornings). We may actually pull in the Teachers Union to play
the heavy. Its soooo nice that we can work together!!!!
I had a bit of a giggle last night - the principal rang and we were discussing
the meeting for funding next year and she said - "oh
by the way did I tell you about my discussion with the legal department
regarding using the pulse oximeter" In their wisdom the
Department had decided that using the pulse oximeter would be "outside their
guidelines" and be asking the teacher/aides to make a
medical decision. I pointed out that if they didn't want to use it they would
have to make da** sure that their resus skills were
brilliant, and their observations of his condition because when someone is
hypothermic they can be very pale and look like they are
not breathing when they are. The pulse ox was a "reassurance" that they weren't
missing what was going on and gave them more room to
"be calm"
Then when Alex crashed the other week really badly I was sitting there with him
cocooned in a space blanket plus 3 other blankets
and you couldn't see him at all. The principal was there and I pointed out to
her (not sure why I thought to) that this was where
the pulse ox came into its own because I was busy doing other things and
couldn't "observe" him without unwrapping him but I could
listen for the pulse ox.
It must have convinced them because the Department has now decided that it is
fine for them to use the pulse ox.......
Anyone would think I do these things for the fun of it!!! sheeesh I have more
to do with my life!!!!!!!

Cultural enrichment lies in learning to speak another language. Ducks, for
example, tell some of the funniest stories.
