Holly, you may have touched on the cause, the walker, or as in the case of
the benedryl he may be telling you in his less than suttle way that he
doesn't want it or need it anymore. Our children communicate in their own
way and we are left to learn their way.
He is deffinitely thinking about ways to get out of work. We always say, if
Morghan put as much effort in to doing things as she does into not doing
them, look out.
In our case Morghan does things when she decides it is time or will
accomplish her goals. She pulls herself up because it gets her to the level
of her toys etc. Oh yea, Morghan would rarly move when put into a walker
that confined her. The one she has now is kind of an old folks thing that
stops you from falling backward, but you just stand in it hold the side and
it comes along with you.
Hope I helped, sorry I had to chuckle a little at the walker story!
Regards,
Faye

Subject: [tri-med] naughty boy
I know some of you are probably going to tell me that Morgan is just being
a typical 6 yr. old, but he is driving me crazy!!!!!
He has decided to become a naughty boy. This past weekend he has pretty
much just been naughty most of his waking hours. The problem is I don't
know how to discipline him. How can I make him understand that he should
not keep doing these things. For example, he has been taking benedryl at
bedtime (as a sleep aide) for 3 yrs., now he gets it into his head that he
isn't taking it anymore. He refuses to open his mouth or he holds it in
his mouth and spits it out later, or he holds it in his mouth and finally
just chokes on it. Last night he didn't even try to be subtle about it, he
just slapped the medicine cup out of my hand. Of course, he smiles
afterward. He has been playing with his food, constantly kicking the back
of my seat when we are in the car, just these little things. Actually, I'm
sure he knows that I don't like these things, maybe that is why he is doing
them
Another thing that I can't decide if it is naughtiness or just plain
stubborness about his walker. I had decided to take the seat out of it,
now he either stands or he hangs by the armpits. Well, the first time I
did this he squirmed, walked, moved in all directions, twisted, and finally
figured that if he held his arms straight up in the air with all that
movement he could slip down between the trunk support and the walker frame
and fall down onto the floor (where he wants to be anyway.) Is this
naughtiness, lack of motivation for being in the walker, or being highly
motivated to be out of the walker? ARGH!!!!! I have decided that Morgan
is more of a thinker than a doer. LOL
The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names.
