Oh Lori, I'm not the one to ask.......but the lab can grow (culture) the
bacteria (or whatever) and determine what it is and what antibiotic it is
sensitive too (can destroy it). In Beck's case it was a urinary tract
infection, the doctor usually prescribes an antibiotic right away, they know
that an infection like this is 'usually' caused by certain bacteria and they
are usually right but since Becky really isn't into statistics she had
something that was resistant to the particular antibiotic hence no
improvement. What annoys me is that it took three months on the wrong drug
before the doc clued in.
