[tri-med] Re: my grandson Van

Thanks, Annee. I love that little poem. It made me cry. I put it in the
journal I'm keeping about Van. My kids have another nurse now for Van. She
assured them she would maintain a positive attitude with them, but that she
would gently point out things they may need to watch or be aware of.

I know it's easy for any of us to say the wrong thing, even out of our love
(and confusion) thinking we are saying the right thing. My daughter talked to
someone from Kindercare, and she gave us pointers about how to talk in general
about Van while he is with us and afterwards.

Take care, and thank you for your kindness.

  Shea,

I'm a senior nursing student at Indiana Wesleyan U.; I'm also taking a
required home care and hospice class right now. When I read your account of
what
the home care nurse said, it made me very angry and embarrased to have some
like that in our profession. Thanks for the reminder to weigh carefully
everything I say to patients.

(ps. to the board: I'd appreciate thoughts and prayers on Thursday [nov2] as
I'm interviewing for a job in the PICU at an awesome hospital)

Oh, how the little things
Strengthen my tiny wings,
Help me to take on the world,
When you love me,
There's nothing I wouldn't try,
I might even fly.
