Daughter and sister - yes - both did.
My sister's (Joanne) was back in the days when it was experimental. The
surgery (18 surgeries all up) was successful but she did die, exactly what
of no one is sure but her bowels were working just fine.

My daughter did and it was traumatic for me (my first child, I was 21 and
all I knew about it was that it killed my sister). In reality it was a
breeze - she only had a small section effected. Two surgeries with the
colostomy for only 12 months. I believe that they can actually treat it
without the surgeries / colostomy sometimes these days.

Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well.
