Funnily enough this topic was being discussed just the other day on
our morning TV program. And not just for disabled kids, but for
"ordinary" kids too at kindergarten and pre-school age. One theory
brought up, is that there is so much hoo haa these days about
"inappropriate touching", most men would shy away from putting
themselves in that position (of being accused I mean). It is a shame,
as I know of many men who would have made great teachers for primary
age kids. It's a sad state of affairs when I have to tell Frank not
to talk to babies or little kids he doesn't know, as the mothers may
not like it.
Tess used to have two male teachers at her school, but one has
retired and the other moved on I think.
Our daughter Gill teachers kindergarten at the local private school.
She is not supposed to comfort kids who fall over in the yard, or
scrape their knee. Which just makes me so mad. What is the world
coming too these days, when common human decency is viewed with
suspicion. Sadly the rotten apples out there have ruined it for
others who have no ill intentions.
