{From these examinations the doctors
found out that she has "Intestinal Malrotation"}
Nicholas had surgery last year for a malrotated bowel and had a fundo also for
reflux. He was in the hospital for 4 days. They gave him an epidural in
recovery for 3 days. Boy did that help keep him still. He did great, but
after the surgery, he got a hernia. He was operated on in the fall of this
year. We went to the doctor yesterday and he has 2 more hernias. The doctor
said he will put different stitches in this time plus maybe a mesh. He said
"maybe" because it could get infected.
I know of 3 other Trisomy 13 children with malrotated bowel surgery. The
doctor said anyone could have this, though. I do know of a 4 week old child
that died last week because she had this and they didn't know. That's why they
need to correct this as soon as possible.
