Morgan had his esophagus stretched again today. Came through it fine, as
always. I got some interesting info. I thought some may be interested in.
As many of you know Morgan was born with esophageal atresia and a
tracheoesophageal fistula. This was all repaired when he was 10 days old.
Periodically, mainly due to growth, he has to have his esophagus stretched.
What happens is the surgery site narrows over time, the rest of his
esophagus is normal. I guess his esophagus is kind of hour glass shaped.
Today the g.i. Dr. told me that a normal esophagus for a 5 yrs. old is 36
mm, before the stretch today Morgan's was 18 mm and she stretched him out
to 27 mm. She told us that this stricture is quite manageable and she has
dealt with worse. So, I guess that is good news. She thinks Morgan may
need to have the dilatation more often than yearly, though, possibly twice
a year.
