kim,
i do know that the more weight you lose, the less PCOS you tend to be.
Its a vicous cycle withe the PCOS causing you to be overweight and the
overweight-ness, making the PCOS and the symptoms worse. For instance when i am
at my ideal weight, i ovulate more normally and have less Hair growth etc.
Good Luck
Sharon

The doctor put me on Ocella, the birth control generic of Yaz or something
like that.
Molly was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries nearly 1 year ago. She was
having some of the unpleasant symptoms. :-(
We went to the dermatologist (for hirsuitism).
He had her start on Yaz (thank goodness I can get it for free---samples at
work. That stuff is expensive!!!). Because it is a BCP that contains
spironolactone.
That we had to see the family doc because the dermatologist doesn't deal
with that end of the equation. lol
Then 3 months later he started her on spironolactone itself.
This drug blocks the androgen receptors, androgen being a male hormone.
Ovaries produce it but in PCOS they can overproduce it; apparently due to
the cysts.
There are multiple side effects when that happens, hirsutism being just
one.
At the 6 month visit Molly has less of the facial hair growth and the hair
was less coarse. We go back in another 6 months and he'll decide if we
need
to up the spironolactone.
The weight loss thing with this is also something that Molly struggles
with.
We just had some fun (NOT) shopping for a prom dress in departments that
cater to the size 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 set where I saw tears escape in the
dressing
room.
Luckily we found a gorgeous cocktail dress: ballerina length very full
skirt
of black lace over a cream underdress, that she can actually wear for
other
events, that looks A+ on her and she adores.
Any tips for living with PCOS would be appreciated as we are in the early
stages around here.
