When we took care of Eric, his tube was the same way. It was like it never
really healed up. I'm not sure why, we just lived with it. I do know that
if the tube moves around a lot, it tends to make the area sensitive and
"oozy", because it starts to heal and then the tube moves and breaks open
the healed portion, forcing the skin to try and heal up again. It's like a
scab being picked. At least that was what our dr. told us. Luckily,
Elanor's tube site is really nice. Nurses have made the comment that it is
one of the best looking stomas they've seen. We just make sure it is dry
and we put triple antibiotic ointment on it a lot because she fiddles and
scratches it when it leaks. The ointment actually toughens the skin. I
quit using it for awhile, and the site was always tender and raw, so I
figured the toughening of the skin was a good thing. It also creates a
barrier so the moisture can't chap her skin. I'm not sure it would help
Morgan, but that's what we do!
I'd like to be OCD, but I just don't have the time...
