Neither of us heard, wheezing, etc.. We agreed NOT to do a chest x-ray, because the flu was so bad. We didn't want her to catch something at the hospital. was worried she might get dehydrated, because she had such a high fever that day. He even checked her for signs, but didn't see any yet. We decided to change her to pedialyte to be safe. By 5 p.m. we were in the ER. They were going to send us the regular floor....decided at the last minute to send us to the PICU. She went into septic shock before we got there! She was incredibly dehydrated & had the flu on top of pneumonia. The only way the ER docs figured it out was through the blood work. They asked me several times, why I brought her in. I kept telling them I just knew she wasn't acting right. Mother's intuition I guess. My husband & I often comment how surprising it is to find out how much we don't know about the human body & practice of medicine. I guess that's why it's called practice!
