After a few years with Alex I could tell when he was 'off' and heading
toward being sick. Jim would poo-poo me those first years "He looks fine to
me" but then 24-48 hrs later we'd have a VERY sick boy.

That was the freaky thing about Alex and his bronchitis/pneumonias over the
years. He'd be fine and within a day be so ill we'd be scared as he was
struggling to breathe. Sometimes we joke that Nascar had nothing over on
Alex in terms of speed, "Healthy to seriously ill in 6.5 seconds".

We were fortunate that the dr finally recognized that I could see things
coming. We go in on the front end of the illness coming and he'd say
"Doesn't look too bad right now but we'll get a script for him and when he
needs it you have it". Of course, that took years as well for him to
recognize that I knew the cycle and how sick Alex would get every time.
